We match every part to the right cutting method based on your material and geometry. Here’s how we sort it.
| Laser | Waterjet | CNC Routing | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Laser is the fastest, most precise option for metal up to .750″, thin gaskets and acrylic | Waterjet cuts cold with no heat-affected zone. Perfect for composites, rubber, and foam | CNC routing cuts plastics, composites, and wood cleaner and faster than laser |
| # of Material options | 120 | 25 | 32 |
| Thicknesses | .015″ to .750″ | .040″ to 2.25″ | .118″ to .500″ |
| Tolerance | ±0.005″ | ±0.009″ | ±0.005″ |
| Min Internal Hole Size | 50% of material thickness | .070″ diameter (varies per material and thickness) | .125″ diameter (varies per material and thickness) |
| Edge & Finish | Clean on thin; striations and abrasive edge over .187″, add deburring if cosmetics matter | No heat-affected zone; light sandblast texture and small fixturing tabs | Smooth; small fixturing tabs sand off |
| Production Time | 1-3 days | 2-4 days | 1-3 days |

Before you upload your design, take a look at our file preparation guidelines. They cover everything you need to know including file setup, sizing, supported formats, and tips for keeping costs down, so you can get the best results from your custom parts.
Our system selects the cutting method automatically based on your material and design. Most metal parts are laser cut. Plastics, composites, and wood are usually CNC routed. Carbon fiber, G10, phenolic, foams, and most rubbers are waterjet cut. You’ll see the assigned method in your quote.
We accept 2D vector files (.dxf preferred, .dwg, .ai, .eps) and 3D files (.step, .stp). We can’t process STL or raster files (JPEG, PNG, BMP). If you only have raster art, see our conversion tutorials for Illustrator and Inkscape.
No. Order one part or ten thousand. Get up to 80% off in bulk.
We pick the best machine for your material to give you the best edge quality at the best price. If you have a specific reason to request a method, contact us before ordering.
Yes. We cut single prototypes and production runs up to 100,000+ parts on the same automated system. Same pricing model, same lead times, same quality.
All cutting is done in-house at our U.S. facilities in Reno, Nevada; Paris, Kentucky; and Arlington, Texas.
We accept .ai, .dxf, .dwg, .eps, .stp, and .step
